Exploring the Limits of System Integration with Smart Dust

The Smart Dust project aims to explore the limits of system integration by packing an autonomous sensing, computing, and communication node into a cubic millimeter mote that will form the basis of massive distributed sensor networks, thus demonstrating that a complete system can be integrated into 1 mm3. Effectively exploring this space requires new approaches to design that emphasize energy an...

Design and Modification of One Arm Driven Manual Hemiplegic Wheelchair

This paper presents design modification to the existing standard wheelchair by incorporating an improved propulsion system and also braking and tilting systems that allow its full control with only one hand. The proposed design has the propulsion system with a chain drive powered through a four-bar linkage driven by the main handle. The desired direction of motion is obtained by moving the leve...

Behaviour of one-step spray-coated carbon nanotube supercapacitor in ambient light harvester circuit with printed organic solar cell and electrochromic display

A printed energy harvesting and storage circuit powered by ambient office lighting and its use to power a printed display is reported. The autonomous device is composed of three printed electronic components: an organic photovoltaic module, a carbon-nanotubes-only supercapacitor and an electrochromic display element. Components are fabricated from safe and environmentally friendly materials, an...

A three-dimensional origami-based immuno-biofuel cell for self-powered, low-cost, and sensitive point-of-care testing.

A three-dimensional microfluidic origami glucose-air immuno-biofuel cell has been successfully demonstrated for the first time to implement self-powered, sensitive, and low-cost sandwich immunoassay for cancer markers based on the signal amplifications of a porous Au-paper electrode and Au nanoparticles attached to carbon nanotubes.

A synthetic DNA motor that transports nanoparticles along carbon nanotubes.

Intracellular protein motors have evolved to perform specific tasks critical to the function of cells such as intracellular trafficking and cell division. Kinesin and dynein motors, for example, transport cargoes in living cells by walking along microtubules powered by adenosine triphosphate hydrolysis. These motors can make discrete 8 nm centre-of-mass steps and can travel over 1 µm by changin...
